Ever dream of chucking all your belongings into a suitcase, quitting your job, and travelling the world whilst making money from your laptop? That’s exactly what Charlotte Jessop from Looking After Your Pennies did. Today we’ve got a guest post from Charlotte in which she reveals her favourite ways to side hustle on the road…
My family and I are currently travelling the world. Back home we had stable jobs and a few good side hustles on the go.
Money was good.
When we set off, we gave up our jobs and hoped that we would be able to continue our side hustles on the road.
Or at least some of them.
We were right.
It has been nearly 100 days since we left the UK and we have been making money as we travel. Let me share my favourites:
MATCHED BETTING
This one was lucrative for me back home, so I did a lot of research to see if you can do it when you are abroad.
Turns out you can.
You’ll need to get a VPN to access the sites from other countries but other than that you carry on as normal. Time has been a bit of an issue, but it is always an option.
Remember, it is tax-free and risk-free, so it is a great way to top up your spending money whilst you are out exploring.
USERTESTING
One of my favourite ways to earn money is through Usertesting.com.
This website pays you to test websites and apps and give feedback as you go.
I was making £30-40 a week with this back in the UK and was happy that I could carry on. I’ve even found being in a different time zone helpful as you are online at times that are quieter in the UK.
FIVERR
I started this one after we set off. It is definitely travel-friendly. If you’ve got a skill such as writing, graphic design or proofreading then list it on Fiverr.
People will pay you to complete tasks for them and it might even lead to regular work. Even if your skill is not your main job, it is worth listing it as it is a great chance to try out some different skills.
TUTORING
As a maths teacher, this is an obvious one for me. I’d been tutoring online on and off for a few years before we set off and found that it worked well.
Being in a different time zone is useful again. Your evening might be someone else’s morning, so it is time that suits you both. Plus, you aren’t limited to working with people in the UK. You could tutor all around the world from your hotel room or hostel.
Even if you are not a teacher, you can always try teaching English as an additional language. There are several companies online that are recruiting English speakers for this role.
SURVEYS
If all the above sounds like too much work, then there are always the trusty surveys. Most will work outside the UK, but it is worth running a VPN just in case.
You can do this in the few moments you have after a day at the beach or climbing up a mountain. Surveys are always there.
KEEP ON HUSTLING
Travelling does not mean you need to stop your hustling. If anything, you will you want to hustle more to sustain your future travels. Keep the old ones going or try some more.
