How To Set Up A Blog With Barely Any Money

Today we’ve got a guest post from Jon over at the The Money Shed. He runs the UK’s largest community website focused on all things related to making money online, and he’s on a mission to help would-be bloggers to set up their sites and start earning money. Here, he tells us more about his new project and how you can kickstart your blog, even if you’re on a super tight budget…

We’ve all been there when the pay checks aren’t coming in fast enough and you’re just waiting for the next payday to roll around. We all tell ourselves that on the next payday we’ll put some money towards that thing we’ve been waiting for, but we never seem to manage it.

This is tricky if the thing you’re putting money towards is the creation of your own blog. You know that having a blog will help you make money, but you need to have money before you can create it. It’s a catch-22 and one that never seems to end. If this sounds familiar to you then you’re not alone. So many people put off starting their blog because they believe they don’t have enough money.

But don’t let this stop you! You may think that you have to save money to buy a domain and take some classes in order to understand what you’re doing but you actually don’t. You can start a blog with barely any money, thanks to Totallyblogging.com.

FREE GUIDES

Totally Blogging is a great resource for those who are into blogging – whether you’re brand new to the scene or a seasoned pro. There are hundreds of free guides available for anyone to use on their site. You don’t need to sign up or pay a fee or anything. Just go onto their site and have access to these guides.

These guides range from the very beginning, such as setting up a blog with step by step guides and choosing which hosting platform to go for. They also have guides for people who know a little bit more about what they’re doing such as getting your blog ranked and how to monetise it.

Using these free guides will help save you so much money, as you won’t be paying for information that can help you set up a blog.

Note from Ruth: Think that blogging just isn’t the right option for you right now? No worries – I’ve got you covered. My free 7-Day Money Making Bootcamp is open for registration, and together, we’ll create your personal blueprint for making money online.

ADVERTISING HELP

Not only can Totally Blogging help you with setting up your blog but they can help you with the advertising side of things too. There are links on their site to other platforms which can help promote your blog on social media. Social media is a big deal now and if you want your blog to succeed then you should have a social media page too.

Totally Blogging can help you with this by providing guides on how to set up pages for all of the various social media sites out there. But they also provide links to tools which can help promote your social media page. This helps you reach people all over the world, thus growing your blog into a world renowned site that gets visitors from all over the world.

The best thing about all of this is that it’s totally free! You can have access to all these guides and links without ever spending a penny. That means that if you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend any money unnecessarily then you’re in the right place. Perfect for those who are just starting up and don’t have the money to spend.

You don’t have to wait until you’ve saved up enough to start your blog. If you’re on a budget or just simply don’t have enough money then you don’t have to put off starting your dream. Totally Blogging has helped many people break free of the catch-22 of starting a blog. It could help you too!

Such helpful tips – back when I started my blog there weren’t all the guides that are available now, so it is exciting for those setting up blogs now!

Such a great resource – there’s SO much you need to know when running a blog, and having these guides all in the same place is fantastic! I made so many mistakes when I was starting out (ahem, er, I’m sure I’ve stopped making them now though), simply because it’s so easy to follow the wrong / outdated advice or just not even realise there’s something you need to know!

I think this is a good reminder for people that you don’t need the fancy website to start. I started with no investment back in 2014. I started building my site with posts. Twelve months later I added a custom domain and started looking for affiliate programs. I made all my background myself originally though it has been nice to be able to afford s professional theme now. Blogging is not an overnight success – it takes hard work and consistency but stick with it and you’ll reap the benefits.

This post is so useful. Creating a decent blog where you have full creative control etc costs, and it can be hard to keep track of and maintain. I find the free guides really useful, to give me ideas I hadn’t thought of and to make sure i am utilising every aspect of my blog and what I put into it!

I don’t think you need to spend much (if anything) to set up a blog as most things can be done over time x

I haven’t really spent much money on my blog but I did buy business cards and review products that I buy. The most important thing with blogging is to write!

Great advice here! I am still using a free platform at the moment and being on maternity leave makes me reluctant to spend money on it but I am hoping to take the plunge soon! x
