Laminate flooring is extremely durable, making it a great option if you’ve got children or pets. It’s also considerably cheaper than other hard floor options, and is likely to last years longer than a carpet. An added bonus is that it’s super easy to clean!

A new sofa can be a big expense, but if yours has seen better days, you don’t necessarily have to rush out and spend a fortune to bring it up to date. Choose a few colourful throws and cushions, and you could completely transform your space.

Covering worktops with vinyl is a huge trend right now in many of the interiors themed Facebook Groups, and the results can be amazing. Faux marble is a popular choice, though colour blocking and faux wood finishes can create a real impact and stand the test of time.

Charity shops are wonderful places to pick up pieces of art for next to nothing. Frames are really cheap and you could give them a lick of paint if you want all of them to look similar, or go mismatched for a quirky feel.

Upcycing can be as simple as getting a tin of paint, but if you’re feeling especially creative, you could use stencils, embellishments, or other pretty effects. Use an unloved piece of furniture that deserves a new lease of life, or again, see what you can find in local charity or junk shops. The beauty of this idea is that the end result will be totally unique.
8. Create a feature wall with paint
Good quality wallpaper can be expensive, not to mention difficult to hang. Instead, choose a bold tin of paint to create a simple but effective feature. Don’t be scared to experiment with colour, and remember that if you end up not liking it, it’s relatively cheap and easy to update!
